Equipment is for sale, you just can't carry it out at the show! I got a great deal on a rebreather last year. If you look at the list of exhibitors about 1/3 are major manufacturers! You certainly will get more information here than at you local LDS.

Personally I never have been, but I know many divers who attended in the past - that's why I've never been.
There's no equipment for sale, most of the exhibits and booths are for package dive vacations and the beer is expensive.
